I painted this yesterday using a tutorial on YouTube just for fun. I like painting different things, even if they don’t turn out right in the end.
I chose this image because it was mysterious. As soon as you look at this painting, you start to wonder what is on the other side of the keyhole, or where the girl had come from. This image also reminded me of Alice in Wonderland, because the keyhole is so big, and the girl is so small.
Why do people paint such bizarre things? Why would you want to paint a keyhole in the middle of nowhere, with clouds behind it? Or melting clocks falling off of the side of a cliff? Or odd, concentric circles in rows of four? It turns out that artists and others are tired of painting realistic scenes or portraits. They want a break from their tiring work and decide to have some fun. Painting the unnatural can be exciting, and even beautiful. It’s like a portal to another world.
Many things can be doorways into another world. For example, thoughts could be a trail to a new idea. Contrary to what most people believe, daydreaming is actually good for you. It has been proven that daydreaming helps you solve problems and uses diverse parts of your brain.
Or, other examples could be music, photos, and books. Music can transport you into a whole new state of mind. Music helps you relax and have fun. Photos show you places you might have never been. Reading books is beneficial to your habits, imagination, and even helps people learn to focus. Creativity can open your doors to new and amazing worlds.
In this picture, I imagine myself looking out onto a whole new landscape, filled with wildflowers of every color, and flickering rainbow-hued fireflies. There’s a stream nearby, and instead of a babble or gushing sound, every time the water changes directions on the silvery pebbles, it makes a twinkling bell sound, almost like the creek is laughing. Far in the distance, there are tall, green-covered mountains, and from my point of view, I can see only the swaying tops of trees. Raising my view to the heavens, I see that the sun is not fully set, the sky is forever a fiery blaze of colors, and the clouds, fluffy and white, change shapes in the blink of an eye, shifting colors and expanding and retracting like living creatures. All is still. I dare not enter the silent oasis, for fear of disturbing the peace. And so I watch. Wait. And wonder.
