Are you looking for a new adventure series full of magic, humor, and a little bit of romance? The Forgotten Five Map of Flames is a delightful combination of all three!

Map of Flames is the first of three books in the Forgotten Five series and the only one I’ve read so far. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. Map of Flames is a delightful adventure about five young teens gifted with unique abilities that live in isolation on an island in the middle of the ocean. They are the children of the supernatural criminals that made having special abilities illegal. When two of the kids’ father dies, they are set on a quest to save their mother and their stash of money from the rest of the world.

When the supernatural teens venture out of the safety of their island on their quest, it takes everything they’ve got to succeed in their hunt for their paranormal parents. It will take all of the teens working together to save their quest and bring their mother safely back from the prison where she was being held.

I absolutely loved this book! This was an amazing blend of magic and comedy, action and adventure! My favorite part was that no matter what happened, the characters were loyal to each other and trusted each other. I also enjoyed how the characters Birdie and Tenner try to figure out the way the world works when they first get into the city.

Another favorite character of mine was a boy named Seven. His magical power was to be able to blend into any background anywhere. The problem with Seven is that he can’t switch off this power, and he feels out of place because nobody can see him or his actions. At the end of the book, he finally realizes that his power is incredible, and he lets himself stop worrying about whether anyone will ever see him again and he accepts that he is just the way he needs to be.

If this book were made into a movie, it would probably be rated PG-13. I definitely think the movie adaptation would be similar to a combination of The Incredibles, Spy Kids, and The Bad Guys. The reason it wouldn’t be PG is that there are some thematic elements of this book that are more centered on teens. Anyone under 13 would not understand the intricacies of the plot. I was pleasantly surprised by the clean language.

My rating for this book is 4.5 stars. There were a few parts of this book that I didn’t love, but the overall story was amazing! I especially loved how Lisa McMann made each character have a flaw that made them have to rely on each other to succeed. This was an excellently done book with breathtaking twists and turns that will have you reading late into the night!

Map of Flames is an enchanting and captivating novel full of unexpected twists and turns. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a new fantasy favorite! Map of Flames is a great story for people with trouble fitting into society—the best way to blend in is to be yourself!
