Happy summer, everyone!
I just got back from watching Disney’s The Little Mermaid 2023. This movie was so well-done and incredible to watch! I was delighted I took the time to go to the movie theater and watch it on the big screen.
This movie is one of my favorite Disney movies. The depth the producer added to this classic movie made this version of The Little Mermaid so beautiful and heart-wrenching. The emotions invoked in this movie created a stunning romance that was breathtaking to watch.
I was a little skeptical when I first entered the theater to watch the movie, not because I thought it would be bad, but because of the previous live-action movies that had come out earlier. I thought that they might have added an awkward scene (Like in Aladdin 2019) or added things that were too scary for little kids (Like in Cruella 2021). However, I was pleasantly surprised. The movie was especially well done and ran smoothly from the start to the end. There was only one scene in the entire movie I think could be too dramatic for kids, and I agree that this movie should be PG.
This movie was completely clean and family-friendly.
I loved the CGI and all of the underwater effects. My favorite was the Under The Sea scene when Ariel is playing with all the sea creatures. The animals and the mermaid scales are amazing to watch. I loved seeing the creativity of colors and the variety of ideas put into this movie. This movie is very inspiring and memorable.
I especially loved the songs in this movie. They were changed very discreetly, but the additions added depth and more perspective to the characters’ struggles. Disney also added two songs, a solo by Prince Eric, “Wild Uncharted Waters”, and “For the First Time” by Ariel. These two songs were creative, encouraging, and delightful. I thoroughly enjoyed these additions to The Little Mermaid 2023.
The producer slightly changed the plot of this movie to add more texture to this story. I liked this because it added more to Eric’s story and more romance between Ariel and Eric. I also liked Ursula’s trick, which made the story a whole lot more interesting. I’m not going to add any more spoilers, but this movie was so amazing!!!
Halle Bailey was a great actress for Ariel, and her unique personality made this movie incredible. Jonah Hauer-King made a great Eric, and I loved how he was projected as kind and compassionate toward everyone he met.
One thing that bothered me is that Scuttle’s voice is Sisu the Dragon’s from Raya and the Last Dragon. It was hard to listen to Sisu as Scuttle, but Awkwafina is a great voice actress and was hilarious.
Sebastian’s accent also sounded a lot like Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast 2017. Although it isn’t the same actor, the voices are similar enough to confuse someone. However, Sebastian did a very good job in all of his parts. Daveed Diggs was an excellent choice for the crab. I loved his personality and comic relief.
Overall, this movie was one of Disney’s best in my opinion. It was fun, entertaining, humorous, romantic, and beautifully done. I loved this movie. It was an amazing representation of what I imagine life would be like underwater. As soon as I finished watching the movie, I wanted to restart it and watch it all over again. I would definitely recommend this to anyone!
Stay Magical,
