Rollercoaster

One of my favorite things to do is ride roller coasters. Whenever I can, I visit theme parks and ride the fastest, biggest, tallest, or scariest rides I can. My favorite ride so far has been X2, a roller coaster you ride backward, flying over twists and turns, dropping and falling at seventy-six miles per hour, and even flipping upside down more than ten times.

Why do I like roller coasters? Roller coasters are exhilarating and exciting and even sometimes scary. However, that’s not why I like them. It isn’t because there are huge drops or ten loop-d-loops in a row. It isn’t even because of the racing speed that the ride reaches. I like roller coasters because they make me feel free. Because they make me feel like I can fly away from the world below, my only concern is where my next spin will be, and when I will have to land. I love the feeling of the wind in my face, and my hair flying out of control. And most of all, I love the unexpected twists and turns and the joy I feel in whistling past with a scream of happiness. Yes, that is why I like roller coasters.

I have visited nearly a dozen theme parks in more than six different states. In fact, I just returned from a trip to Florida for spring break, going to both Sea World and Busch Gardens. Last year, my family traveled to the Six Flags in Chicago, Illinois; Valencia, California; and St. Louis, Missouri. I’ve been to Disney Land and Disney World, and even to Universal Studios and Volcano Bay. Although I’ve been to all these individual parks and ridden almost a hundred different rides, my favorite theme park by far doesn’t require a long drive or short plane flight. I have been to various places around the country, and barely any of them rivaled Lagoon, in Farmington, Utah.

Lagoon holds some of the most unique rides in the U. S. From roller coasters that use magnets to shoot you straight up, then straight down, to spinning and flipping rides that can give you whiplash in almost no time at all. Additionally, all of the roller coasters work at maximum capacity constantly, ensuring that the wait time in lines is no longer than it should be. Consequently, my love of both roller coasters and writing is converging, and my next proposal borders on the possible idea of a book set in a theme park, the main character being a wanted thief.

Although my fingers are itching to start scribbling down the story, I still have some research to do, and you know what that means–it’s time to get back to exploring more parks, and riding more coasters, so I know what the general feel is for an idea. That, and it’s fun for me too. 🙂
