One of my favorite things to do is play the piano. I love learning new songs and performing in front of friends and family. It’s a way to serve, reach out, and have fun.
Beginning a song on the piano is like jumping into a new world. After playing the first few notes, the music carries you away to your thoughts. You’re able to relax, let your fingers do the work, and enjoy the song. It has become one of my favorite hobbies because of this.
The songs I like to play on the piano are pop and songs from recent movies. I like this genre because it’s upbeat and happy and the songs I play are pretty popular, so people know what they are listening to.
Playing the piano or any other instrument is known to help lighten your mood, focus better on other things, decrease stress levels and anxiety, and increase happiness. Studying piano has also been shown to amazingly improve memory—particularly verbal memory—and build good habits like perseverance and diligence. Playing and listening to music also boosts creativity.
Learning an instrument is also known to connect you to others and help you reach out to those who are struggling. Listening to positive music is good for everyone and gives more of the world happiness and love.
Although playing the piano sounds difficult and way too hard, all you have to do is start learning. The hardest part of it is continuing after the many mistakes you make, even after many years of practice.
Even before sitting down at the piano to learn a new song, I know there will be many mistakes that I will have to go over before making the piece polished and ready to perform. This is like writing because I know that even before sitting down at the computer to write the first draft, I already know there will be many edits and changes later on, just like replaying a small part of the song until it is perfect. I can’t just sit down and write the finished book, I have to change and adapt and fix all of my mistakes.
Currently, I am on the fifth draft of my book. Each time I rewrite it I love it even more, and I hope you will too.
Stay magical,
