This is Zeturnisc Li, my Main Character in my upcoming Debut Novel!!!
Zeturnisc Li is 113 years old. He is a fairy prince, and a Time Seer. He has white hair, blue eyes, and dragonfly wings. He’s a terrible cook, and loves music!
Zet can see the next five seconds of the future. If someone about to speak? He can hear their words before they open their mouths. If someone tries to attack, he can see their moves before and counter before they even raise their arms. He can pluck secrets out of a person’s head, and keep his island safe.
So why wasn’t he my first choice as Main Character?
Well…
At first, I started writing from the perspective of a teenage girl, Nia Dare. She met and helped Zet escape a death trap, along with his brother and sisters. Using ancient powers of three incredible gems, she singlehandedly saved them from being ogre slaves and stopped a sorceress from destroying their world. I was in the middle of drafting the fourth book (yes, FOURTH) when I suddenly realized something that completely flipped my perspective.
Up until that point, Zet, and his brother Tian hated each other. Why? Couldn’t they just work together to save their island and use their powers to defeat the evil sorceress?
And then, Zet started talking. Like a lightbulb, it hit me: He had emotions! He had powers! And he had a past we NEEDED to understand!
So I started writing a prequel. A journal that Zet had written about his childhood. And when I was finished, it clicked.
What if Zet was the MC all along? What if his story was the true backbone of everything?
From that point on, everything changed. I realized that Zet wasn’t just a side character—he was the story. It’s honestly crazy to think that I had no idea just how pivotal he was until I gave him the chance to step into the spotlight.
So here I am, back at the beginning, with Zet taking charge and making everything his own. His voice, his journey—it all feels so much more authentic now that he’s leading the way.
Funny how one simple shift in perspective can change everything, right?
